Front Desk Receptionist

Discovery Space is looking to hire a friendly and enthusiastic front desk receptionist. Front desk receptionists are responsible for ensuring all of our visitors, young and old, have a fun and positive experience. Duties include, but are not limited to overseeing the operation of exhibits, the safety children and families, welcoming visitors, answering questions over the phone and processing various forms of payments and memberships. Front desk receptionists work in a fast-paced environment and must be able to prioritize and multi-task. Background checks required.

This position is part-time (10-15 hours per week) and will require weekend availability as well as Friday and Saturday nights. Interested applicants should complete our online employment application. Birthday Party Host

Discovery Space is looking for enthusiastic individuals to host our growing number of weekend STEM-themed birthday parties for children. Birthday hosts are responsible for catering to the needs of the birthday family and ensuring a fun and successful event. This includes but is not limited to setting up the room, assisting with clean up, and leading a fun STEM activity during the party. This is a part-time position and will require weekend availability (Friday evenings/Saturdays/Sundays), including Penn State football game Saturdays. Occasionally, hosts will have the opportunity to work during other events held at the science center. For more about our birthday parties, please see our Birthday Parties page.

Positions are available immediately. All necessary training is provided by Discovery Space. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, especially around groups of excited children, will have the ability to prioritize tasks and maneuver on-the-spot changes to the party schedule in a professional manner and will be comfortable leading an activity with children of various ages.

Hourly wage ranges from $8-$10/hour

Birthday parties last 2 hours but commitment per party is 3-4 hours, which includes set up, activity prep and clean up.

Summer Camp Classroom Assistant

June-August

Join the Education team at Discovery Space this summer as a Summer Camp Classroom Assistant. Classroom Assistants will be directly responsible for assisting with daily experiments and activities while helping to maintain a safe and fun camp environment. Classroom Assistants will also be expected to help open or close the science center during before care (7:30-9am) and after care (4-5:30pm). Successful candidates will have had experience managing groups of more than 15 children and will demonstrate strong communication and customer service skills.

30 hours/week

Responsibilities Include:

  • Before and/or After care
  • Prep and cleanup of all spaces used by campers
  • Program materials management
  • Monitoring the health and safety of all campers
  • Overseeing snack/lunch time and outside play time
  • Constant communication with supervisor (including checking email daily)
  • Other duties as assigned

This is a fast-paced position and will require a considerable amount of time working on your feet. Current CPR and First Aid Certification preferred. Background checks will be required.
